英文                   中五級 – Environmental Issues in Hong Kong

A Journey Through Hong Kong’s Marine and Environmental Science

On 10th and 24th March 2025, our students embarked on a series of enriching educational activities that not only explored the wonders of Hong Kong’s marine ecosystems but also aligned seamlessly with our English language curriculum focused on environmental issues.

  • Marine Biologist Activity at Hoi Ha Wan:
Students participated in a hands-on experience observing the vibrant coral reefs of Hong Kong. Engaging in water quality testing experiments, they gained insights into the delicate balance of marine environments and the factors that affect aquatic life. This activity helped reinforce vocabulary related to biology and environmental science while encouraging students to articulate their observations and findings.
  • Understanding Marine Ecosystems at Cube O:
The visit to Cube O aquarium provided an interactive learning experience, where students learned about the role of jellyfish in marine ecosystems. The highlight was a virtual reality experience that allowed them to immerse themselves in the underwater world, simulating what it feels like to be a fish navigating through their habitat. This experience not only expanded their understanding of marine life but also enhanced their language skills as they discussed their experiences and reflections.
  • WEEE Park Visit:
At WEEE Park, students discovered the critical process of recycling electronic waste in Hong Kong. They learned about the environmental impacts of e-waste and explored sustainable practices for disposing of old electronics. This visit was instrumental in developing students’ ability to articulate environmental issues and solutions, with specific focus on vocabulary related to recycling and waste management that is central to the curriculum.
  • Exploring the Hong Kong Maritime Museum:
The visit to the Hong Kong Maritime Museum was an eye-opening experience as students learned about the historical development of Victoria Harbour, particularly the impact of land reclamation. This activity provided a context for discussing environmental changes and sustainability, allowing students to write and speak about their thoughts on developmental impacts using the language skills they have been honing in class.

These activities not only fostered a deeper appreciation for marine life and environmental science but also empowered our students to advocate for conservation and sustainability in their own communities. Integrating these experiences with the English language curriculum has enriched their ability to communicate effectively about pressing environmental issues in Hong Kong. We are excited to share photos capturing these memorable experiences.
